Abhinav Dewan – Pernod Ricard Graduate Wine Ambassador

Hey, how’s it going? My name is Abhinav Dewan. I’m 25 years old from New Delhi India; and
I’d like to take the next few minutes to tell you a bit about myself which is not there
on my CV and also why I believe that I am the right pick for your next vintage. My friends say that I am a man full of energy
and confidence, someone who is always optimistic and makes life look easy. And I believe that is because of my never
ending pursuit of fun. Two interests of mine that are almost as old
as I am are soccer and music. Soccer since an early age taught me how to
be part of a team and strive towards a common goal while learning how to play the guitar
taught me that patience and tiny efforts can go a long way. Apart from sports and music, I’ve always enjoyed
travelling and trying out new things. I’ve been to more than 20 states in India
and lived in 3 of them all of which had different languages and cultures. I’ve also traveled to ten other countries
in 4 different continents and from experience can say that I have no doubts in my ability
to adapt to new environments and blend in new cultures. Even though subjects like accounts, economics
and stats were my strong points; I chose marketing as my specialization as I found it to be more
enjoyable and challenging. My interest in marketing and knack for numbers
made me quickly rise in my first job, where I learnt the tricks of the trade of the distribution
and retail business. Within the first year, I went from executing
marketing plans to making them and from formulating reports to analysing them. I spent six months in a start-up where I was
expanding the business in new region. The drive to accomplish targets without the
presence of constant supervision really helped me in becoming a more dependable and responsible
worker. It was in 2015 when I finally decided to pursue
wine as a career. And thus, I moved to Adelaide for my Masters
of Wine Business. Since I’ve moved to Australia, it has been
nothing but amazing and I’ve enjoyed every single day of my University life. Apart from academics, I started playing soccer
for the University club which allowed me to make a bunch of new friends from all over
the world and experience new cultures. I took the university breaks as an opportunity
to travel around and explore Australia. Went up the East coast to see the Great Barrier
Reef and down South to Tasmania, where I did few of the most beautiful hikes that I’ve
ever done. I also kept my tradition of learning new things
alive. Like one day I found these amazing bouncy
balls and the next day I was juggling; or when I needed a new laptop, I took the opportunity
to learn how to build my own computer. To enjoy and experience wine more with likeminded
people, I attended many wine events around the country such as Pinosity, Rootstock, Hot
100 to name a few. After learning so much about wine and the
wine industry in the past couple of years backed by my experience in business and marketing,
I feel ready to enter this industry as a professional and I believe that the Pernod Ricard Graduate Program
is that opportunity for me. Before I go, I’d like to thank you for taking
out time to consider my application. If you choose to give me and interview, I’d
take the opportunity to re-emphasize my suitability for the program. Thanks again. This was Abhinav Dewan, and I’ll be looking
forward to hearing from you.
