Alarm Email and SMS Notifications

Alarm Email and SMS Notifications

This module will cover the emailing and texting alarm notifications in the Microtech® Integrated Systems. Alarm notifications allow the system manager
to send email or text messages that an alarm has been triggered. All user access levels can setup notifications
to be sent to an email or phone, but the source configuration needs to be setup before any
user can send notifications. A tenant level user will not be able to setup
a source. To set up the notifications, click the settings
tab, then system configuration. Select the alarm configuration. The source configuration is going to be the
email you send the notification from. It is recommended that you talk to your local
IT personnel to set this section up. This is required for both email and (SMS) text notifications. For this example, we will set it up with a
gmail account. The SMTP host is the server list name, and
the SMTP port is the port number. Enter in the gmail account that will be used
for sending notifications. Check the authentication required check box. Here enter in your username and password for
the sending email. Click save when you are done. Now that the sending information is setup,
move down to the email and sms configuration tab. To setup an email notification first select
the user in the alarm settings drop down. Each user can be setup with one email address
and one SMS phone number. You will only be able to choose users with
access levels equal or below the access level of the currently signed in user. Next check the “enable email addressing”
box. In the min priority for email drop down, select what type of alarms you want to get notifications about. By selecting warning all alarms will trigger
a notification. By selecting problem, only problem and fault
alarms will send notifications, and by selecting faults, only fault alarms will trigger notifications. These are outlined in more detail in the alarms tutorial. Last enter the desired recipients email address. It’s a good habit to click the “send test
email” button to verify everything was setup properly. Remember to press save before leaving this
page, or all work will be lost. For sending notifications via text message
select enable sms warning. The min priority works the same as the email
min priority drop down. Enter in the desired recipient’s phone number,
and select the carrier of the recipient. Once again, it’s good to test the setup
to verify its operation. Remember to press save before leaving this
page, or all work will be lost. For more information please refer to OM 1254
