Go the gear icon in the upper-right and choose “Integration.” We’re working on the MailChimp integration. Press “Enable.” It says “watch a video showing you how to link to MailChimp.” That’s this video, so great job. First, come up here to MailChimp and log in. After you log into MailChimp, go to “Account.” Choose “extras,” and API keys. If you already have API keys created, use one of those. Or you can create a new one. Select this first one, then copy it. An API key says, “Hey MPDX, you can talk to MailChimp. MailChimp, you can talk to MPDX. You can share your information with each other.” Return to MPDX and paste in the API key. Press Save. Now, pick a list to use for your newsletter. It says “Create list in MailChimp exclusively for use with MPDX.” MPDX will automatically synchronize your MailChimp list with your MPDX data. If you pick an existing list this process could have the effect of removing people from your MailChimp list. MailChimp is going to say, “MPDX, you win.” If there are people that are in MailChimp that aren’t in MPDX, their names will disappear. You want to start with a clean list. Select the list. I created a list in Mailchimp called “Prayerletter MPDX.” In MailChimp, go to Lists. Go to create list and it gives you some thoughts about that. Create the list. Put in the name, the “from” email name, write a short reminder, “You’re one of my ministry partners. I’m grateful for you.” Put in your address and your information. Press Save. Choose that newsletter. Press Save. Here’s how it will work after that: If you go to one of your contacts go into edit mode, any contact that you have selected to receive either your e-mail newsletter or both, will be selected to go to MailChimp. It will use the primary email address for each individual. In this contact, I’ve got two different individuals. I’ve got Alladin, and Jasmine. They both have primary email addresses. They will each become a separate contact in my MailChimp list. Let’s say I want send email to Alladin but not to Jasmine, I can opt Jasmine out of the newsletter. Then only Alladin will get the emails. If I want to add more people, children, or someone else, I would add another person, and choose Primary Address. MailChimp will only sync with a Primary Address. If an email bounces back, MailChimp will tell in MPDX that the email address is no longer valid. It will select this email box and will let you know that it does that. If somebody unsubscribes from your email, MailChimp will tell MPDX MPDX will then check the box that says “opt out of email newsletter” and it will do that automatically for you MailChimp tells you when someone unsubscribes, so MPDX isn’t going to inform you. That is how it works. Enjoy the MailChimp Integration.
