Keep Looking Until You Find It With Dr. Elham Safani Raker #mindset #Businessgrowth

Speaking with Dr Elham Safani. Her website is A Doctor and a Blog of the members of the female physician
entrepreneur group and I wanted to come on and have you talk about your business
your business gross what you’ve been up to definitely give some tips for our
members all right and then anything else you want to add so we’ve been in the
group for a while and I know that you’re a blogger yeah so can you tell us a
little about how you got started blogging like why you wanted to do that
yeah I’d love to um first Thank You Sharon thanks for
this group and for this space I love it I love all the positivity um so thank
you for that and for having me on so blogging is a big part of my journey
actually because um you know I’m so I’m al Hamza Fani Waker so funny
dr. waker is my married game so i go by both but um i have been a pediatrician
i’ve been out of residency for 16 years and my journeys been interesting because
I got married straight out of residency moved to Denver and had been following
my husband since then he’s a interventional radiologist so following
him in his residency his training his fellowship and so I never really got
settled into a career but that was a choice that I made and just kind of
worked as a pediatrician but never felt like I had a career as a pediatrician
became a mom and didn’t want to pursue a career as a pediatrician just because I
really wanted to be mom and just worked part-time to keep things going so I
never really felt like I had my own thing um a few years ago I went on a
trip with a lot of other woman to Israel it was um kind of like a mom’s mission
and it was a lot of personal development through religious um kind of aspects but
still a lot of personal mountain and that’s what really started me where
I am today because I was really looking for something and I just didn’t know
what so blogging was actually my first thing
and that was mine it wasn’t something I was maybe making money on but I really
always liked to write I’d like to express myself that way
so I don’t know what made me think to share that with the world was basically
what it was so I would write down my thoughts and share it um and it was just
really more therapeutic for me it was fun and obviously getting positive
feedback was great but it wasn’t about that it was more just putting it out
there and sharing and hoping that somebody could relate because I felt
like the things that I was going through in my career and my journey as a mom
that other people can relate to and hopefully learn and grow and you know
whatnot so that’s how the blogging happened and I don’t do it often but I
do it because I enjoy it so that’s been really fun you know with all the moving
around and medicine the way that it is it’s good to find something that you
really enjoy so I’m happy that you found that you know yeah absolutely
alright so for people that do you want to mention any other businesses that
you’re doing yeah so I think along the same journey I again since pediatrician
wasn’t a complete career for me and working more as a pediatrician wasn’t
really something I wanted to do because that just meant more time away from my
kids I was looking for something else to do on my own time which I think a lot of
people in this group can relate to and so you know around that time there was
the physician side gigs there was you know all these offshoots of PMG and I
was looking at all of those as options and potentials of things I could do on
my own time and New York came into my life at that point so about a year and a
half ago I joined new Orang became a consultant with them and met another
member of this group Allison Webb and actually a lot of
I know in this group is because of Maori so it’s been great
excellent all right so along your path right what would you recommend to other
people kind of you know perhaps their I hate to use the word loss because I
don’t think anybody’s lost but just maybe unsure of their past
sure um I still joke that I feel like I’m still trying to figure out what I
wanted to be when I grow up and I think that number one don’t settle I think
that we all kind of just go into medicine and think that you know I spent
so much time and money and effort that this is it this is what I have to do and
I don’t think that’s true and I think that’s something I’ve learned from this
group and others um it’s hard to give up medicine because we all did work really
hard for it but I think you can find ways to make it work for you and I love
that with the new generation of technology and different things that we
have now there’s so many ways to make things work for you so I’d say number
one keep looking till you find that thing whatever that thing may be and not
to settle I think the other biggest thing for me is not to worry about two
things one what will happen I don’t know what will happen you don’t know what
happened but you won’t know till you try so don’t worry about failure I think
that was holding me back a lot like what if I did this and it failed what if what
if what if but so what I guess that’s been a big thing I’ve
learned the past few years is learn through failure succeed through failure
get to the top through failure and so if that’s holding you back
just fake up and go from there and and then the other thing I think what will
other people think um if I do skincare and and don’t practice
medicine what will people think if I you know try to do this thing out of the box
with all the people think so I think those are my main takeaways is
don’t be afraid to fail and don’t worry about what other people
think their opinion just doesn’t matter really great points I was looking at
Bank calm today and there was an article on a billionaire I know the name but I
really didn’t place his face he talked about living in the present how
important it is he thought that his success was once he decided to live in
the present rather than yesterday with all the regrets and then tomorrow what
could happen exactly what you’re saying oh you know where he worried about
failure so I thought that was a really neat and you know perhaps I’ll share it
to the group but those are the great tips and you don’t know that until I
think you know thank you for sharing that with the group because I think
there’s a few that are just they’re not sure of their journey well nobody’s sure
of the journey who knows what’s going you know but if you don’t take action
and try things you’ll never know alright looking back on it all would you
do anything differently and that is a great question you know it’s hard to I
physically wouldn’t do anything differently because I feel like what led
me here was because of the things that I did or didn’t do um like had I not
married my husband and went into a career in medicine and I would have you
know so it’s like it’s hard how would I say I wouldn’t marry my husband I have
two great kids the only thing I think I would do differently now that I know is
start self-development sooner I think that it’s a shame that we don’t get more
of that in medical school and I know things have changed a lot you know eight
years ago Tony Robbins was was around that it was kind of like just Tony
Robbins now there’s so much more in that arena and I think in the past I just
thought it was like you walked down the self-help aisle if you’re not doing so
well and I didn’t really believe in the importance of personal development and
like I have the past few years and really mostly since starting new your
they put a huge emphasis on it and I’ve really taken that to heart so I think if
anything I would start that sooner because I think that has given me the
tools to help me get to I am and hopefully continue you know on
that journey and improve myself excellent all right we’re gonna end soon
I’ll put your links up down below with your blog and your personal information
people can reach out to if you have any further questions for Elam anything else
you want to add and no I think those are the main things I think and there’s
actually one more thing because this is something I talked to you about sure I
was really nervous about coming on because I said to Sharon I feel like so
many women on this group are so much further in their journey and their
success than I am with Sharon said you know that’s ridiculous
but um and not just today but in a few months ago when you guys asked me to do
this my first thought was no and then I’m like okay yes because it’s good to
do this for multiple reasons getting out of the comfort zone and all of that but
also because I know there’s some of you they can relate to what I’m saying that
I’m not as far along as I want to be on my journey but we have to start
somewhere and if I can help one person realize that I’m not this huge success
story but I’m just starting somewhere and I’m willing to take the next step
that hopefully you guys are willing to do that as well and that’s all I mean I
my story is really just beginning so it’s really great advice you know what
really is I do see a lot of that in the group unfortunately I mean I didn’t want
to bring that up unless you wanted to bring it up but I was like what no you
know we don’t believe in ourselves who will believe in ourselves who will be
like you know it’s just not it doesn’t set the precedent for anybody even
around us self-help it’s hope you know when you go to the bookstore that
self-help years ago it was small and now it’s a lot but um but just the bottom
line is how you feel about yourself people see that you know that’s like you
know it’s just to surround you it’s really important to have faith in
yourself and and all I can say is I believe they’re very limiting
as far as intrapreneurs go if we don’t their self-esteem her self-confidence
and we don’t believe in ourselves and we’re always worried about what if what
if tomorrow and it really does limit us and I can tell you there are people out
there without any degrees and they are very successful and they just say they
just take the shot that they could be health coaches there can be a lot of
different things without going into we spent years doing this who better than
us to talk about health and wellness and it’s okay that you’re not certified in
something you’re you know you’re certified in medicine so but yeah I
think those are really great tips you know I said this before I look into the
eye but I’m looking at you and you and looking at yeah I know I think this is
really great information it’s wonderful talk all the members will definitely
boost it well we’ll put it up there and thank you again for doing this thank you
for having me Sharon that was fun okay
