So now you know about the basic discounts offered by the US Postal Service. But there’s one more way for you to make the most of them. In this video we’ll talk about Co-Mail pools and how they let companies work together to save everyone money. Last time, we saw how a larger mailing list is more likely to produce more efficient pre-sorted levels, and thus, more savings. This statistical probability works great for national brands with mailing lists in the millions… but what about our Summerfield’s catalog with a mailing list of only 100,000? A mailing list of this size is only expected to presort about 2.3% to bundles at the carrier route level. This would still qualify Summerfield’s for a discount, but they could do even better… A Co-Mail pool is the most effective way for companies of any size to take advantage of high density discounts. The pool works by combining the mailing lists of multiple companies to be presorted together as if they were one big mailing. In this case, with each company contributing the quantity of their own mailing list, a combined mailing list of 8,400,000 recipients would be created. The portion of pre-sorted bundles that would reach Carrier-Route of this larger, combined list would be higher for each participant than what they could have reached on their own. Also, the proportion of carrier route bundles each participant realizes can vary depending upon many factors such as their mailing demographic. In any case, each saves more on their postage costs then they would have on their own. And just like with individual mailing lists, when Co-Mail pools reach quantities of
6 million and more, bundles at High Density and above begin to appear with increasing frequency. Which translates into even more savings. Larger printers and mail service providers can combine dozens of lists into a single co-mail event, so almost anyone can participate and save!
